The Suburban Ice 12U Girls Hockey team journeyed to Midland to participate in the 12 Annual Rainbow Tournament January 11-13th. In the first game of the round-robin, the Ice faced off against the Sault Ste. Marie Headlines and came away with a hard-fought 4-2 victory. Leah Boreland earned game MVP honors with 2 goals, while Brelin Tasker chipped in with a goal and assist and Kortney Diaz added a goal. In second game action against the Stitch King Wolves, Player of the Game Mckenzie Ahmet turned on the offense with a natural hat trick, while Morgan Stacey and Brelin Tasker added single goals. Rylie Murray sparked the offense from the blue line with two assists while Sophie Kanar and Kortney Diaz added single helpers. Emmy Cooper played a strong game in goal to earn the shutout, aided by her shut-down defensive corps of Brianna Rairigh, Emily Callahan, Samantha Wais, Rylie Murray, Morgan Stacey and Katie Keyser. Game 3 saw the Ice overcome a tough Meyer's Munchies team 3-2 with a goal from game MVP Morgan Stacey, a goal and assist from Leah Boreland, and the game-winner from Samantha Wais on a nifty pass from Emily Callahan.
That set up a re-match in the tournament final versus the Headlines who jumped on the board first and led 1-0 after two periods. The Ice stormed back courtesy of a buzzing forecheck by the forward lines of Kortney Diaz, Madison Phair and Jacyln Jasgur, Leah Borland, Anna Mondrusov and Sophie Kanar, and McKenzie Ahmet, Lauren Widger and Brelin Tasker to score three times to capture a 3-1 victory. Leah Boreland paced the attack with two goals, with a goal and assist from McKenzie Ahmet, and single assists from Lauren Widger, Brelin Tasker, Brianna Rairigh and Morgan Stacey. Emmy Cooper stood tall between the pipes to earn Player of the Game honors for the Ice. The Suburban Ice 12U girls are coached by Rod Callahan, Rick Murray, Lyle Phair, Lev Modrusov and Kevin Diaz.
